ION-IP, integrator in the field of Application Delivery Networks, was named ‘Innovator of the Year’ by F5 Networks, provider of Application Delivery Networking technologies. The award, which was issued at  F5's "Success 2010" Partner Summit in Budapest, went to ION-IP for its innovative, flexible and cost effective way she applies the F5 applications in different customer environments.

ION-IP has developed a hosted security service designed for companies who are setting up a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). This SOA Security Gateway protects both the applications the datacenter and web services that companies use via the internet.

 

The SOA concept originated from the need to change processes in a flexible way. That same flexibility, however, is threatened because organizations need to protect their new web services - applications. If they have to secure each web service separately, the benefits of the SOA concept is lost. The solution is an XML gateway, where all the security logic comes together at a single point. ION-IP now offers such an XML gateway as a hosted service.

 

A major challenge in creating an SOA is federated identity management: how do you know for sure whether the person using your Web service is who he says he is? And how do you ensure that partners only have access to that information which they are entitled? The ION-IP Security Gateway Service takes this problem off the hands of its customers. Research & Development Engineer Sake Blok of ION-IP has won the "iRule. Do You? " - contest of F5 Networks. Purpose of this competition is to show the impact of iRules to applications and IT infrastructure. iRules save service providers and online service providers development time and ensure a more successful implementation of applications, without continually updating the network. Thus significantly reducing the time to market of new services.

 

The ION-IP developed iRule allows all outgoing traffic to be dynamically encrypted and simultaneously to adhere to all security conditions. Without this iRule, a manual profile would have to be configured for every separate destination. For our clients this yielded a significant cost saving and better management of the environment.

 

A jury consisting of nine directors, analysts, press and iRules experts judged the entries on innovation, creativity and practicality. The jury praised the iRule of ION-IP because of its creativity and added value. "It's a very original concept for a challenging problem. We are surprised that so little code can achieve so many added values. "
It is the third time that F5 Networks organizes this contest and the second time that Sake wins the prestigious award. His previous submission - an iRule that allows load balancers, in the case of session-related data traffic, to send the traffic to the appropriate server – is in use by customer of F5 worldwide.
